GeoBlue Long Term Plans
Living outside of the United States or your home country for more than 6 months creates a threshold that you cross that requires a thoughtful approach to making sure your health insurance coverage meets or exceeds your needs. This is especially true for those of us who live in the United States. If you have a domestic health plan it is important that you look carefully into the details of the plan should you move outside the U.S. for more than 6 months. Most plans will not cover you once your have moved and are outside the country for an extended period of time. And for those plans that remain in force while you travel – be careful as the coverage will generally only cover you for emergencies. Coordination of payment with overseas providers will more than likely not exist and should you end up in a medical facility that is not part of their overseas networks than you will more than likely be on your own and responsible for your own payment for services.
GeoBlue’s Premier Flagship for Expat Plans – Xplorer, Xplorer Essential and Xplorer Select
GeoBlue Xplorer plans cover you inside and outside the United States. The GeoBlue Xplorer Premier and Essential health plans are designed to support the international lifestyles of those who travel to or from the United States for extended periods of business, leisure and study. If you leave home six months or more, your health and financial security are at serious risk because of significant gaps in most available insurance coverage and services. The risk is only heightened by limited knowledge of health and safety hazards around the world, including medical treatment from unfamiliar providers.
GeoBlue Xplorer Premier is the ultimate international health plan because it combines comprehensive worldwide benefits with a new generation of medical assistance service, which include and impressive array of Online and Mobile tools used to identify, access and pay for quality healthcare all around the world. GeoBlue Explorer Premier gives you freedom to access care inside and outside the United States. If you need benefits outside the U.S. only, GeoBlue offers a variation called the Explorer Essential Plan. The Essential plan eliminates coverage within the United States and it’s territories and this lighter coverage comes as a much lower price point as well making it very attractive for those who simply do not have the need for coverage within the United States.
NEW this year to Xplorer Essential
Up until now many outbound from the United States expatriates have had to make the choice between a much more expensive Premier plan (includes U.S. Coverage) and the more affordable Essential plan (No U.S. Coverage). This meant that if you had plans to visit the United States you were left to finding an alternative short-term travel medical plan for inbound coverage while in the United States. Many of the off-shore plans could create claims nightmares and so for many it was an unpalatable choice.
Now GeoBlue members have a choice to add the NEW Basic U.S. Benefit Rider Option. Basic Coverage is limited to a calendar year combined maximum of 3 trips of 21 days for each trip. For an individual, the medical deductible allotted per calendar year is whichever is the greater amount – either $1,000 or 2 times the deductible amount shown on your certificate of coverage. The family maximum is 2.5 times the individual deductible.
