Do I Need An Epat Policy?
This is a question that must be asked by everyone who travels outside their home country and there are certain guidelines that can help you determine if your International Health Insurance needs are Short-Term in nature or they are Long-Term. The basic rule of thumb is that if you have plans to live outside your home country for 90 days or more per year than you are probably considered an Expat in need of Long-Term coverage. Although Cigna Global does not offer a Short-Term Travel Medical policy (which are generally available up to 180 days) the baseline is 3 months abroad. So if one might be gone more than 90 days but less than 180 Cigna Global’s plans might be the right choice. Short-term Travel Medical plans ARE NOT renewable but the Expat plans from Cigna Global are. Once issued you can renew them monthly for as long as the need exists.

Also includes compassionate visits for a parent, spouse, partner, sibling or child to visit a beneficiary after an accident or sudden illness and the beneficiary has not been evacuated or repatriated.|

STEP 3. MANAGE YOUR PREMIUM
Deductible options: The initial amount you must pay before Cigna will pay your claims.
Cost share options: The percentage of each claim which you must pay after your deductible has been paid, up to your out of pocket maximum.
Note: deductibles and cost shares apply separately to each beneficiary and period of cover. You can choose different levels for your core plan and the optional International Outpatient module.
STEP 4. PAY FOR YOUR PLAN
You can choose to pay for your premiums on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. You can make payments by debit or credit card, or alternatively if you pay annually, you can pay by bank wire transfer.
Cigna Global Added New Rates and Discounts Recently
Recently Cigna Global Health Options updated rates for individual expatriate medical products to reflect emerging global medical cost trends. With the advantage of having over 1 million network hospitals physicians and clinics globally, Cigna Global benefits from reduced in-network claim costs. This in turn allows them to control medical inflation trend closely, which reflects both unit cost and utilization increases globally. The medical trend rate actions vary by geographic location and as such, are designed to ensure they meet the individual needs of Cigna’s diverse, global expatriate customer base.
Cigna Global lowered prices for customers ages 60-80 effective 15 February 2016, Cigna Global also lowered their prices for customers aged between 60 and 80, by 5 to 10%. The rate reduction benefits new customers, and existing customers at renewal. Cigna believes that the lower prices, coupled with the fact that there are no age restrictions on their plans makes Cigna Global Health Options a very competitive option for senior clients
Effective 07/15/2016 – Cigna Global announced that families of four or more may now qualify for a 10% discount when they take up a Cigna Global policy including all optional modules. The 10% discount is applicable to policies with four or more members (including the policyholder), where the optional modules International Outpatient, Vision & Dental, Health & Wellbeing, and Medical Evacuation have been selected.
Cigna Makes Platinum Plan Richer – New in 2016 and beyond
Two of the Core Modules, the Core Cover or Inpatient module and the International Outpatient module which create the foundation that your medical plan is built upon. Previously their flagship plan the Platinum Level had overall annual limitations of $3,000,000 maximum for Inpatient services. On the Outpatient module it was limited to no more the $78,000 USD per annual period. That all change January 23rd, 2016! Cigna Global increasing these amounts to UNLIMITED both on the Inpatient Core module and the International Outpatient module.
This was a huge gain for the International Expat living abroad who seeks the very best in International Medical Coverage. Many customers have expressed concerns about the limitations especially the Outpatient limitation of $78,000. Well no longer is this a concern. Out of Area Cover and Maternity Changes
In addition to the above enhancements to the Core Inpatient and International Outpatient modules Cigna Global is adding Emergency treatment in the USA for Worldwide Customers excluding USA Customers. For those USA Customers they still have the option to add Home Country cover for an additional premium. For Maternity coverage Cigna Global is moving routine pre- & post-natal outpatient care to the Outpatient module. Now 12 month waiting period across all maternity benefits.
Emergency Medical Evacuation
World travelers need to properly protect themselves against financial exposure due to catastrophic medical events. The Affordable Care Act and U.S. Citizens Living Abroad
Moving abroad is an exciting time for most people. There is plenty to do prior to departure. For American Citizens it is important that they understand what responsibilities they will have to meet should they move broad with regards to the Affordable Care Act. Most Americans today know that they are compelled to purchase what we now refer to ACA Compliant heath insurance so that they are not required to pay the Shared Responsibility Payment (IRS Penalty) for not having “Minimum Essential Coverage”
U.S. citizens living abroad are subject to the individual shared responsibility provision. However, U.S. citizens who are not physically present in the United States for at least 330 full days within a 12-month period are treated as having minimum essential coverage for that 12-month period regardless of whether they enroll in any health care coverage. This is known as the Physical Presence Test.
In addition, U.S. citizens who are bona fide residents of a foreign country (or countries) for an entire taxable year are treated as having minimum essential coverage for that year. In general, these individuals qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion under section 911.
Individuals may qualify for this rule even if they cannot use the section 911 exclusion for all of their foreign earned income because, for example, they are employees of the United States. Individuals that qualify for this rule need take no further action to comply with the individual shared responsibility provision during the months when they qualify. They will report their status with their federal income tax return on Form 8965
U.S. Citizens who do not meet the physical presence or residency requirements must have minimum essential coverage (an ACA Compliant healthplan), qualify for a coverage exemption, or make an individual shared responsibility payment when they file their federal income tax returns. Note that minimum essential coverage includes a group health plan provided by an overseas employer.
